D.O.C. Investigation Confirms Tariffs are Imminent

Department of Commerce has made its Ruling.

The U.S. Department of Commerce is enforcing antidumping and countervailing duties on wooden cabinets, vanities, and components (WCV) from Vietnam and Malaysia, as they are believed to use Chinese materials to avoid tariffs. The ruling aims to protect U.S. cabinet manufacturers from unfair competition. The Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturers Association (KCMA) supports this decision, seeing it as a win for domestic producers. the final ruling is now set for October 28, 2024, and the tariff rates will range from 4.5% to a whopping 295%!

What does this mean for Cabinet Dealers?

80% of RTA cabinets are coming from Vietnam currently. Now, not all of these companies will receive tariffs, only the ones that are getting parts from China which seems to be a majority of them to varying degrees. Cabinet dealers can expect their cabinets coming from Vietnam to see substantial price increases as soon as November and December of this year. Some suppliers that say they are from China will also be seeing significant price increases as they are shipping out of Vietnam to avoid the Chinese antidumping Tariffs.

What can I do to avoid higher prices?

It is recommended to find dealers that are not from Vietnam/China that will be seeing price increases. This means looking at cabinets produced here in the USA or imported cabinets that are not out of the affected countries. Here at C-town, we have lines made in the USA and lines out of Cambodia that will not be affected by these tariffs. Contact us today if you’re interested in learning more about these cabinet lines.
