SPC vs. WPC, Which is Better?
One of the most common questions about Luxury Vinyl flooring is what is SPC flooring and WPC flooring and what is the difference. This quick post will provide a breakdown of each and which one is a better option.
What is SPC
Pros of SPC
Waterproof
The most durable type of LVP
Most resistant to denting/warping
Solid core means any imperfections in the subfloor will not affect the installation nearly as much as a softer core
Can be installed on top of any hard surface including concrete, tile, hardwood, plywood, or laminate
What is WPC
Pros of WPC
Waterproof
Softer underfoot than SPC
Low Maintenence
Stays slightly warmer in winter than SPC
Which is better?
This is a question we are asked frequently, and we almost always see SPC as the superior product. Installers prefer it almost unanimously to WPC, which can be more brittle during and after installation. WPC has also traditionally been slightly more expensive than SPC, now prices are coming down from where they once were and are more competitive now; however, the superior durability and ease of installation makes SPC the winner from our end. There are cases where WPC can be a better option due to its comfort. If comfort is the most important factor, WPC is the winner with its warmer temperature and slightly softer core. If that is your main concern then certainly explore WPC options.
